The Scenario


There have been a number of recent changes in the UK Executive team resulting in the appointment of Claire Price as ITS Director. The key challenge for Claire and her team is to drive a significant transformation programme that will deliver a truly business aligned approach to IT leadership. The end result will be:
  • Stronger customer and service focused IT organisation
  • Improved ROI return on investment for IT spend
  • Consolidated and consistent approach to IT systems and services
  • Motivated IT team that is recognised for its ability to partner with the business
  • Delivery of real business value

The timescales for this programme were hugely challenging, with a need to hire a number of high calibre IT executives with experience across a number of disciplines ranging from stakeholder management and business partnership, to IT strategy creation and delivery, solution delivery, project management and project office.

The Process


The project initiated in July 2007 with a business requirement to have the first phase of candidates starting in September. Gillamor Stephens initiated a candidate generation programme that included Executive Search and Selection alongside a process of harnessing our network of contacts in the CIO space.

Each candidate was put through a thorough and highly effective assessment centre, led by the internal recruitment team at Wyeth alongside Gillamor Stephens, to ensure functional experience was complemented by the competencies required to lead this transformation programme.

  • Programme Office Manager

The Result


Gillamor Stephens were able to identify strong candidates with a particular mix of competencies, functional experience and leadership criteria to drive through this transformation programme. The successful hires come from a broad range of industries but each has the necessary level of drive, energy and application to make the ITS transformation programme a complete success. The ITS function is now working as a group to improve ROI and is starting to deliver real business value.

The newly recruited team members are helping to shape and move forward the ITS function within the business.  Change is being embraced by the whole department, and the ITS function is working much more closely with the business to help deliver business critical projects. The ITS team is now a strategic player in the business and no longer seen as a back office function.
